In this laboratory students will have the opportunity to work with bacterium E. coli. Two new genes will be inserted into this bacterial genome, one for the production of green fluorescent protein and another for resistance to ampillicin. A promotor sequence will also be transferred, allowing the expression of the two new genes to be regulated. After incubation, the transformed culture will be compared to the control to testi for the ability to produce glow in the dark colonies grow in the presence of ampicillin.
