Historic Preservation Mini-Seminar

Mike Bedenbaugh, Executive Director of the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation, engages students with a fascinating look at history and the evolution of architecture using some of South Carolina’s historically significant properties. With a colorful and fun PowerPoint presentation loaded with photos, Mike demonstrates what makes a building pleasing to the eye and relates the “divine principles” of architecture to other objects… and people.

Next, Mike concentrates on South Carolina’s unique architectural heritage and what makes historical properties worth preserving by telling stories of landmark homes and the people who lived in there in the past.

Mike can customize his presentation by using examples and photos of properties in your region. A former social studies teacher, Mike knows how to make learning fun and interesting! This mini-seminar lasts 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your needs and can be adapted to students from 3rd grade - 12th grade.
