Garden Programs

The Botanical Garden plays host to free gardening demonstrations, Saturdays from 11:00 am-1:00 pm, presented by the Clemson Extension Urban Horticulture Center; topics range from fire ant management to composting. Children can explore vine-covered tunnels, tepees and activity stations in the new Play Garden, while kids of all ages can take the Garden Scavenger Hunt, leading participants on a fun-filled quest to find and identify unusual plants and decorative folk art. Garden Programs offer even more opportunities to dig up fascinating facts about native and exotic plant life at Riverbanks and beyond. Certified horticulturists teach all Garden Programs, available for ages 3 - adult.

Junior Master Gardeners

The Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program is a 4-H, international youth gardening program of the University Cooperative Extension network. JMG engages children in novel, hands-on, group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment and cultivate the mind.

JMG provides an opportunity for youth to interact and bond with nature. Level 1 (ages 8-10) explores insects, plant life, design and more. Level 2 (ages 11-13) focuses on plant growth and propagation methods, as well as the effects of soil and water cycles on plants. Participants will learn how to conserve our natural resources and make knowledgeable decisions about the environment.

Choose from JMG Saturday Session or JMG for Homeschoolers.
