The Peace Center Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Sept. 8: The Peace Center in Greenville is kicking off their 20th Anniversary Season with a bang with one of the entertainment world's most iconic performers — Liza Minnelli! Winner of four Tony Awards, an Oscar, a special Grammy Legend Award®, two Golden Globe Awards, and an Emmy, Liza gives new dimension and credibility to the words "superstar" and "Diva." The show is set for Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Peace Center continues its celebration in grand style, with a spectacular line-up of performances and $5 tickets for five special performances.

Frankenstein: A New Musical!

Sept. 10-11, 17-19, 24-25: Aiken Community Playhouse is excited to bring a fresh, new musical version of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to the stage. With earnest ballads and soaring ensemble numbers, Frankenstein: A New Musical brings the suspense and romance of the classic tale to life in a uniquely faithful, yet thoroughly innovative adaptation of original novel. The timeless, cautionary tale of Victor Frankenstein, whose noble dreams of grandeur unleashes instead a litany of terror and tragedy. Before it is done, everything in his privileged world will be torn asunder. Performances are scheduled September 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 8 p.m. and on September 19 at 3 p.m. The September 10th performance will be interpreted for the deaf & hard of hearing. RENT

Sept. 10-Oct. 2: Back by popular demand, Trustus Theatre presents RENT, directed by Dewey Scott-Wiley with musical direction by Christopher Cockrell and choreography by Terrance Henderson. RENT is Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical based loosely on Puccini's opera La Bohème.

Reasons to be Pretty

Oct. 22-Nov. 13: Directed by Chad Henderson, Reasons to be Pretty  is a love story about the impossibility of love. The show introduces us to Greg, who really, truly adores his girlfriend, Steph. Unfortunately, he also thinks she has a few physical imperfections, and when he casually mentions them, all hell breaks loose. Greg also learns a shocking secret about his best friend at work and has to wrestle with his involvement. Reasons to be Pretty is a romantic coming-of-age story set in today's modern dating landscape, and is sure to entertain audiences with its heart and humor. Shows: Thursdays through Sundays only.

Performing at Fine Arts Center of Kershaw

Take a trip to Camden and see just how much the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County has to offer. 

Sept. 23-24: Back by popular demand, the Fine Arts Follies feature lots of Kershaw County "talent" and some down right crazy fun featuring your neighbors and friends. This outrageous annual, all-male comedy revue has repeatedly played to sold-out houses in the past. 

Sept. 30: One of the Fine Arts Center's most popular artists is back! Dick Goodwin and his Big Band returns to the Fine Arts Center for a one night only performance that is not to be missed. The evening will begin with a gallery opening at 5:30 with a wine and cheese reception that will lead into this amazing concert.

Oct.  17: Under the direction of W. Patrick Wiley, Fine Arts Center affiliate Camden Community Concert Band is comprised of over 50 performers who love to make music. Enjoy their melodious sounds at this free concert at Rectory Square.

Music in the Mountains

The Pickens County Museum of Art & History's Music In The Mountains series has something for everyone. Held at the historic Hagood Mill, Music In The Mountains includes tours, concerts, demonstrations, living history presentations and seasonal thematic activities. Upcoming events include:  

September 4: Pickin' in the Evening Shade Fayssoux McLean and the New Legacy Duo, Freddie Vanderford & Brandon Turner. Long known among Carolina folk and country music fans, singer/guitarist Fayssoux McLean comes to Hagood Mill for a special performance with her friends Freddie & Brandon. 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

September 18: Annual Old Time Fiddler's Convention from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.,  one of the last such events in South Carolina and a good time for all with prizes for the top musicians in several categories.  

October 2: Pickin' in the Evening Shade - TBA

October 16: Annual Storytelling Festival, a Hagood Mill favorite, hosted by musician/storyteller/ radio personality, John Fowler, and featuring tall tales, yarns and whoppers by some of the regions best tellers.

November 20: Selugadu IV, a Native American Celebration in honor of Native American Heritage Month, hosted by Reedy River Intertribal, featuring Cherokee (and other) Native culture interpreted through drumming, dancing, storytelling, demonstrations and crafts. Hagood Mill's biggest event.  10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

December 18: Yuletide Celebration - Celebrating Yuletide traditions around the world and featuring a "Celtic Christmas" concert by Ed Harrison and Friends.
