Writers! Submit Your Work to the First Novel Prize!

December 7, 2011 – The South Carolina Arts Commission, Hub City Press and their literary partners announce a call for submissions for the biennial South Carolina First Novel Prize. The application deadline is March 19, 2012; a winner will be announced in October.  The competition judge is Josephine Humphreys, a Charleston novelist whose latest book is Nowhere Else on Earth.
 
The winning author will receive a book contract with the Hub City Press, an award-winning independent press in Spartanburg, S.C. The winner will also receive a $500 advance against royalties, and Hub City will publish at least 1,500 paperback copies of the book. <more>

Columbia College Establishes Sandlapper Archive Room

Gillespie Named Executive Director of Sandlapper Society

July 20, 2009 — Elaine Gillespie has been named Executive Director of Sandlapper Society, the nonprofit educational organization that produces and publishes Sandlapper magazine, publishes books and promotes the positive aspects of life in the Palmetto state.  <more>

Bob and Rose Wilkins Awarded Prestigious Statewide Honor

May 15, 2008 – Bob and Rose Wilkins, founders of Sandlapper, The Magazine of South Carolina, have each been awarded the prestigious Order of the Palmetto. It's the first time in 37 years the award has been given to a husband and wife. The Governor's Award was given at a reception May 15, 2008 in Columbia to honor the 40th year of the magazine's founding. <more>
