August 5, 2009— All For Liberty,
the award winning feature film about the Revolutionary War in South
Carolina, will premiere in Columbia on September 26 at the South
Carolina State Museum. Several of the film's actors will be at the
premiere to meet with those in attendance and answer questions about
the film. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Sandlapper
Society. There will be two screenings at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Tickets
are $20 for adults and $15 for teens. Tickets are available at
803.359.9954.
All For Liberty tells the true story
of Captain Henry Felder who led his patriot militia against British
loyalist forces in the backcountry of Orangeburg County from 1776 to
1780. Felder's story was virtually unknown until direct descendant,
veteran Hollywood and Broadway actor Clarence Felder brought it to the
screen. The feature film was shot at various locations in South
Carolina and Georgia, using historical sites whenever possible. The
project sparked interest in Henry Felder and led to the discovery of
the Felder homestead and his grave. Two cannons used by Felder's
militia were found hiding in plain sight in the middle of Orangeburg's
town square!
All For Liberty, won three awards in the
Accolade Film Competition in La Jolla, California, and then had its
world premiere at the Beijing International Movie Week in March, 2009.
In April, it won three more awards at WorldFest Houston 2009, including
a
prestigious Special Jury Award. It also won Audience Choice For
Best Picture at the Charleston, South Carolina, International Film
Festival. The seven awards are especially meaningful because the cast
and crew of All For Liberty banded together to produce the film without the backing of a large studio.
The Sandlapper Society, the beneficiary of this premiere, is the
nonprofit educational organization that produces Sandlapper magazine,
publishes books and promotes the positive aspects of life in the
Palmetto State. "The Sandlapper Society's mission is to tell the story
of South Carolina. This premiere is a perfect collaboration between
three groups that respect and want to share the history of the Palmetto
State. All for Liberty is a wonderful look at our state's past
and the real impact South Carolina had on the Revolutionary War. It is
a thrill to premiere this film at the South Carolina State Museum and
we are especially excited and grateful that the makers of All For Liberty want to share their success with us," said Elaine Gillespie, Sandlapper Society Executive Director.
