Sandlapper Society Names New Executive Director

July 20, 2009 —  Elaine Gillespie has been named Executive Director of Sandlapper Society, the nonprofit educational organization that produces and publishes Sandlapper magazine, publishes books and promotes the positive aspects of life in the Palmetto state.

Gillespie, owner and president of The Gillespie Agency, a full-service advertising agency in Columbia, has served as a consultant for the magazine for more than 20 years.

Sandlapper Society board member Robert P. Wilkins, Jr. said, “We are fortunate to have Elaine in our organization. Her long association with our magazine and familiarity with our mission make her a great choice to lead us into a new era. Her more than 25 years of experience in advertising and long history of community involvement played a huge part in the Board’s decision to bring her on.”

As Sandlapper Society Executive Director, Gillespie will be responsible for steering the branding and operations of the Society. “My long association with Sandlapper magazine has been so rewarding and I’m looking forward to the challenge of growing this group’s membership. This is such a unique mix of individuals, but they all love and are proud to be from the Palmetto state,” Gillespie said.
